What is the news?
2025 is the third hottest year recorded on Earth. American researchers and European Union climate monitors have confirmed this. There is no hope of respite from this scorching heat even in 2026. An average increase of more than 1.5 degrees in global temperature has been recorded in 3 years. According to research organization Berkeley Earth, the last 11 years have been the hottest ever, with 2024 in first place and 2023 in second place.
Temperature being recorded since 1850
Data from the European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) showed that the last three years have been the hottest years ever and the temperature in 2025 is only 0.01 degrees warmer than in 2023. The UK Met Office, Britain’s national weather service, has also confirmed that 2025 is set to be the third warmest year since records began in 1850. These temperature data are likely to be published by the World Meteorological Organization.
Increase in temperature is becoming a matter of concern
ECMWF said that for the first time the Earth has recorded a three-year period in which the average global temperature has been 1.5 degrees above the level before the Industrial Revolution. Scientists say that this limit can lead to serious consequences of global warming. “The observed temperature increase during 2023-2025 is extreme and suggests an acceleration in the rate of Earth’s temperature rise,” Berkeley Earth reports.
