300 stray dogs brutally murdered, serious allegations against sarpanches and officials

Kamareddy: A heart-wrenching incident has come to light from Kamareddy district of Telangana. According to reports, around 300 stray dogs were brutally killed in the district. This mass murder was carried out on 6, 7 and 8 January 2026 i.e. within a span of 3 days. It is alleged that this work has been done by the village sarpanches, secretaries and some local persons, which is a blatant violation of animal protection laws. As soon as information about the incident was received, animal welfare activist and cruelty prevention manager named Stray Animal Foundation of India Adulapuram Gautam immediately informed the police.

‘The truth should come out and the culprits should be punished’

Gautam went to Shayampeta police station and lodged a formal complaint about the matter, after which the police registered an FIR. Seeing the seriousness of the matter, a former Union Minister also intervened in it. He spoke to the circle inspector and sub-inspector and gave them strict instructions. The minister said that along with registering the FIR, postmortem of the dead animals should also be conducted as per the law, so that the truth comes out and the culprits are punished. Commenting on the incident, Adulapuram Gautam said, ‘Animal Birth Control (ABC) is the only scientific and humane solution to control the number of stray dogs.’

‘Unlawful killings cannot be a solution’

Gautam stressed that the failure to implement the ABC Rules 2023 and inaction by local bodies have directly contributed to the increase in the number of stray dogs. Gautam appealed to the state government to immediately start mass sterilization and massive anti-rabies vaccination programme. He further said, ‘Unlawful killings cannot be a solution, and strict action must be taken against the culprits to prevent recurrence of such incidents.’ Police are investigating the matter and are expected to take action against the culprits soon.
