9th class student became mother, stayed in hostel for months, even went to class but no one paid attention

An incident has come to light from Kandhamal district of Odisha which has raised a question mark on the management of government schools and hostels in the state. A minor student of class 9, studying in a government high school in Firingiya block and living in a hostel, has become a mother. As soon as this news spread, there was a stir in the entire district and there was a lot of anger among the parents regarding the safety of the children.

According to the information, this matter is of Nedipadar High School. It is being told that last year when there were school holidays, the student had gone to her village. While staying at home, she came in contact with a young man from her area and allegedly due to physical relationship, she became pregnant.

Girl stayed in hostel for months after getting pregnant

The surprising thing is that after the holidays were over, the student came back to the school hostel. She stayed in the hostel for months, attending classes daily, but neither the warden, nor the teachers, nor any school staff had any idea that the student was pregnant. The matter came to light when changes in the physical condition of the student became clearly visible. When the school authorities noticed his condition, his family was hurriedly informed and he was sent home.

Baby’s condition worsens after delivery

On March 1, 2026, the student gave birth to a child at her residence. However, after delivery, the health of the minor student is said to be very bad. In view of his critical condition, the concerns of the health department and administration have increased. In this matter, the headmaster of the school and the family members of the student have lodged a formal complaint at the local police station. Police have registered an FIR and a special team has been formed to investigate. The police are now investigating mainly on two points. Firstly, who is the young man responsible for getting pregnant? And secondly, what negligence took place at the school and hostel level? How did this matter remain hidden from the eyes of the administration for so many months?

Strict action will be taken against negligent employee

Kandhamal District Welfare Officer Rabi Narayan Mishra has taken a tough stance on this entire matter. He said, “This matter has come to the notice of the administration and we have started an investigation under the existing rules. A thorough investigation will be conducted to find out where the lapses occurred in monitoring the hostel. If any negligence on the part of the school administration, warden or any employee is found, the strictest action will be taken against them under the law.”

Question on safety of girl students

This incident not only shows the lapse in security, but also raises many big questions. Are there no regular health checkups of girl students in hostels? A minor girl was pregnant for months, yet why did the warden and matron not know? Are the safety rules in government hostels being followed only on paper? Only after the investigation report of the administration comes, it will be clear who is actually responsible for this negligence. At present, the priority is the treatment of the student and getting her justice.
