Bagalkot: The struggle of the sugarcane growers regarding their dues and current sugarcane price fixation has taken a severe form in Bagalkote district. On the outskirts of Mahalingapur in Mudhola taluk of Bagalkote district, hundreds of farmers have come together and staged a fierce protest against the Sameerwadi sugar factory.
Angry farmers stopped tractors loaded with sugarcane heading towards the sugar factory. On this occasion, they vented their anger by setting fire to sugarcane worth lakhs in a tractor. A tractor with sugarcane was also damaged in this incident. The farmers rolled the tractor trolleys full of sugarcane to the side of the road and blocked the road and expressed their outrage. The main reason for farmers’ anger is the non-payment of sugarcane dues by the factory and the non-fixing of sugarcane prices for the current harvest season.

There was a tense atmosphere at the scene. A heated argument also took place between the police who came to control the situation and the sugarcane growers.
