The process of SIR is going on at a fast pace in nine states and three union territories of the country. The Election Commission said on Sunday that out of 51 crore voters living in these places, counting forms have been distributed to 49 crore. The Election Commission on Sunday said that 7.61 crore counting forms have been distributed in West Bengal since the special intensive revision (SIR) work of voter list began on November 4. A Commission official said that so far 99.42 percent voters have been included in the process.
The official said, “By 8 pm on Sunday night, an estimated 7.61 crore people have been included in this process through the distribution of counting forms.” There are a total of 7.66 crore voters in West Bengal. Chief Electoral Officer Manoj Kumar Aggarwal on Saturday had directed all the District Election Officers to complete the work of collecting the filled Special Intensive Revision (SIR) counting forms this month.
Forms distributed to 49 crore voters
Enumeration forms have been distributed to more than 49 crore voters out of approximately 51 crore voters in nine states and three Union Territories under the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls. The Election Commission in its daily SIR bulletin said 49.73 crore counting forms have been distributed across 12 states and union territories. In other words, 97.52 per cent of the 50.99 crore voters have received partially filled forms.
SIR process happening in these states
The states and union territories where the SIR process is taking place include Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Puducherry, Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep. Of these, assembly elections will be held in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala and West Bengal in 2026. In Assam, where elections are to be held in 2026, the revision of the voter list will be announced separately. The second phase of the SIR exercise began on November 4 and will continue till December 4. (Input- PTI language)
