While playing, a toy from a chips packet got stuck in the throat, painful death of an innocent child.

A very painful incident has come to light from Kandhamal district of Odisha, where a small plastic toy took the life of an innocent four-year-old child. This accident happened at Musumaha Pada near Shikaramaha village of Brahmanigaon police station area. The name of the deceased child was Bigil Pradhan, who was the son of Ranjit Pradhan. Like every day, Bigil’s father had brought a packet of chips for his child. There was also a small plastic toy gun inside that packet, as toys are sometimes found in packets for children.

Swallowed toy while playing

Bigil was playing with that small toy. While playing, he accidentally swallowed the toy. This toy gun got stuck in his throat and he started having serious difficulty in breathing. Seeing the child’s condition worsening, his parents tried to take out the toy themselves, but they could not take it out as it got stuck deep in the throat. Bigil’s breathing started slowing down rapidly.

The family immediately took the child to Daringbadi Community Health Centre, about 30 km away. His condition worsened on the way. On reaching the hospital, the doctors examined him, but by then it was too late. Doctors declared the child dead.

The child’s airway was completely blocked. Due to plastic toy getting stuck in the throat, breathing stopped and due to this the child died. After this tragic accident, there is deep mourning in the entire village. A mountain of sorrows has fallen on the family. People are now demanding a ban on such small plastic toys, which can prove dangerous for children.
