In Kannada cinema, some movies make a noise due to their star casting and big budget, while some movies succeed in attracting moviegoers quietly through their content and title. Recently, the film “Vikalpa”, which is attracting Sandalwood cinephiles through the same content and title, is a psychological-thriller film produced by mostly new talents. The young director Prithviraj Patil is bringing the hidden emotions and turmoil of the human mind to the screen through this film.

Hundreds of movies are released every year in the Kannada film industry. But among so many movies, the number of psychological thriller movies can be said to be only a handful. “Vikalpa” is one of those rare films. The hope of the film team is that “Vikalpa”, which is being made by mostly young minds, will not become a rare film in Kannada cinema.

ʼVikalpaʼ means a state between reality and imagination. As per the title of our film, it is a mental health story, but it is a complete thriller. Along with the psychological-thriller elements, the whole story of the film is woven with a heavy emphasis on light humor and entertainment. The story of this film is the hero. Here every character speaks. Every character will touch the hearts of the audience, says Prithviraj Patil, the director of Vikalpa.

Prithviraj Patil, who has over two decades of experience in amateur theater and is the managing director of a reputed multinational IT company, is bringing his concept to the screen through the film “Vikalpa”. This is the debut film being produced by Smt. Indira Shivaswamy under the organization ‘Suru’s Talkies’, and director Prithviraj Patil himself is appearing in the lead role in this film. This film is coming on the screen as a gift to all mature Kannada film audiences who want story and writing to be the most important part of a film, says the director.

Another special feature of the film ‘Vikalpa’ is that many scenarios are depicted in the film on the advice of many skilled psychiatrists. The film team has done something like this with the hope that the scenes of the film should be very close to nature. Most of the shooting of “Vikalpa” has been done around Bangalore, Tirthahalli, Sagar, Shirsi, Kundapur, Yallapur, and “Vikalpa” has also been shot in foreign countries including Singapore, Netherlands.

‘Vikalpa’ stars Prithviraj Patil, Nagashree Hebbar, Sandhya Vinayak, Ganapathy Waddinagadde, Swaroop Bachch, Pooja Bachch, Jayant David, Dr. Prakriti, Master Ayush Santhosh etc are seen in important roles. Harini Srikanth, one of the famous actresses of Kannada cinema, has painted a different and special character in this film. Besides, the famous hill theater artists Ganapathy Hitthalakai, Pragya Ganapathy, Madhava Sharma, Girish Hegde, Ganapathy A. Another special feature is the star cast of big artistes such as R, ‘State Award’ winner Yakshagana artist Gode Narayan Hegde.

Mithun Theerthahalli has also directed the film ‘Vikalpa’. While Abhiram Gowda has captured the beautiful scenes of “Vikalpa” with his camera, South Indian famous editor Suresh Arumugam has edited the film. Samvatsara has composed music for different songs of “Vikalpada” and Prithviraj Patil and Kaundinya Kudlutota have written lyrics for the songs. The songs of “Vikalpa” were sung in the voice of singers like Siddharth Belmannu, Samvatsara, Sriranjini, Inchara. Currently, the shooting of “Vikalpa” is over and the post production work of the final stage of the film is going on in full swing.
