A sensational case has come to light from Yellapur town of Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka. Where a 30-year-old Dalit woman was stabbed to death on the road. It is alleged that this murder was committed by a person known to him. The police have started investigating the matter. Superintendent of Police (SP) Deepan MN said that the body of accused Rafiq Imamsaab was found hanging from a tree in the forest near Yellapur on Sunday.

The police officer said the incident led to communal tension in the town and several Hindu organizations called for a bandh in Yellapur on Sunday. He has described this murder as a case of ‘love jihad’.
Rafiq was the main accused of murder
The deceased has been identified as Ranjita Bhansod of Kalamma Nagar, Yellapur. According to the police, Rafiq, a resident of the same area, was the main accused in the murder of the woman. Police said that Rafiq and Ranjeeta were friends since school days.
Was pressurizing the woman to marry
A police officer said, ‘Preliminary investigation reveals that the accused was pressurizing the woman for marriage. When the woman refused, he openly attacked her with a knife. The incident happened on Saturday afternoon, when Ranjitha was returning home from her workplace.

Police said Ranjeeta got married about 12 years ago in Maharashtra and has a 10-year-old son. She was living with her family in Yellapur, separated from her husband, where she worked as a mid-day meal assistant in a government school. The accused would often come to her house for meals but tension increased when he insisted on getting married, which Ranjitha and her family opposed.

BJP leaders attended the funeral of the woman
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Karnataka unit president BY Vijayendra had attended the funeral of the woman. He demanded a compensation of Rs 50 lakh and two acres of land for the bereaved family. He also announced immediate assistance of Rs 5 lakh from the party.
Told the matter of love jihad
Shri Ram Sena chief Pramod Mutalik said, ‘This is completely a case of ‘love jihad’ in which unmarried women, widows or divorced women are targeted.’ In view of the situation, the police have tightened security by deploying additional forces in Yellapur and surrounding areas.
Targeted at the state government
Condemning the incident, Vijayendra alleged that such crimes are happening again and again due to the inaction of the state government and the Home Department. He alleged, ‘Whenever such incidents happen, even before the police starts investigation, the Chief Minister and the Home Minister give clarification by saying that this is not a case of ‘Love Jihad’.’
Demanded justice for the victim’s family
Vijayendra demanded a thorough investigation into the case and justice for the victim’s family. The term ‘Love Jihad’ is used by right-wing groups to allege that Muslim men conspire to lure Hindu women into relationships and marriages in order to convert them to Islam.
