The severity of cold increased further in North India on Sunday. Day temperatures dropped in the national capital Delhi and fog restricted visibility in parts of Rajasthan. The minimum temperature has been recorded at 4.4 degrees Celsius in Churu, Rajasthan. The temperature remained below zero in Kashmir also. The Meteorological Department has predicted light rain or snowfall in the upper areas of the valley including the hill states in the next few days.

Delhi’s minimum temperature reached 7.4 degrees Celsius

According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the maximum temperature in Delhi was recorded at 17.3 degrees Celsius, which is two degrees below the average temperature for this season. The minimum temperature was 7.4 degrees Celsius, which is 0.5 degrees above normal.

Forecast of light rain and snowfall in the mountains

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted light rain or snowfall at isolated places in higher reaches of north and central Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh on January 5 and 6. The IMD said that there is a possibility of a gradual decline of two to four degrees Celsius in the minimum temperatures over central and eastern India during the next three days, after which there will be no significant change for the next four days.

The Meteorological Department has also predicted frost at some places in Uttarakhand on January 5 and 6. It said that the minimum temperature in Gujarat is likely to increase in the next five days. There is no forecast of any significant change in the minimum temperature in the remaining parts of India.

6.6 degree Celsius temperature in Delhi’s Ayanagar

Due to increasing cold, the temperature of Delhi is continuously falling. According to IMD data, the minimum temperature was recorded at 8.9 degrees Celsius in the Ridge area, followed by 7.6 degrees in Lodhi Road, 7.4 degrees in Safdarjung, 6.8 degrees in Palam and 6.6 degrees in Ayanagar. According to station-wise maximum temperature data, the maximum temperature in the ridge was recorded at 17.8 degrees Celsius.

Delhi’s AQI was recorded at 307

According to Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data, Delhi’s air quality index (AQI) at 4 pm was 307, which falls in the ‘very poor’ category. Moderate to dense fog was observed at many places in Rajasthan during the morning, with Fatehpur in Sikar district recording the lowest minimum temperature of 1.1 degrees Celsius.

Minimum temperature in Pali and Churu 4.4 degrees Celsius

According to the weather department, the minimum temperature was 4.4 degrees Celsius in Sirohi, Pali and Churu, followed by 4 degrees Celsius in Banasthali, 2.8 degrees Celsius in Lunkaransar and 2.5 degrees Celsius in Sikar.

Temperature reaching minus in Srinagar

Temperatures remained below zero in Kashmir and minimum temperatures dropped further across the valley. The minimum temperature in Srinagar was recorded at minus 3.2 degrees Celsius, much lower than minus 1.5 degrees Celsius the night before. Currently, the outbreak of Chilla-e-Kalan continues in Kashmir, which is the most severe 40-day winter season. During this period, the temperature at night often falls several degrees below the freezing point. However, there has been no snowfall yet in the plains of the valley this season.
