Panaji: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has suffered a major setback in Goa. Former president of the party’s Goa unit, Amit Palekar has resigned from the party. He has sent a resignation letter to Arvind Kejriwal. It is being told that he was angry for the last few days. Amit Palekar was removed from the post of state unit president after the party’s defeat in the district panchayat elections.

Did not enter public life with desire for position

In the letter sent to Kejriwal, he wrote – ‘I am resigning from the primary membership of Aam Aadmi Party. I did not come into public life with a desire for position or position. I joined the party with the belief that it promised an alternative political culture – one based on transparency, internal democracy and respect for grassroots voices. However, over time, it became difficult to reconcile these ideals with the way decisions are made and communicated now.

It is difficult when decisions come only from above.

He further wrote – When dialogue and consultation are limited, and decisions come only from the top, it does not weaken individuals, but puts pressure on institutions. For a movement that had set out to redefine democratic functioning, these differences have been deeply disappointing. Still, I am grateful to the party for giving me this platform and I got to learn a lot in this journey. I have always worked sincerely and to the best of my ability in the interest of the organization, along with dedicated workers who selflessly gave their time, trust and energy. I respect him a lot.

The decision was not taken in anger or haste

Amit Palekar wrote – ‘After much thought and consideration, I have decided to part ways not in anger or haste, but with self-respect and clarity. This decision has been taken keeping in mind my fellow workers and most importantly, the people of my St. Cruz constituency. My commitment to Goa and principled public life is unwavering. I will continue to work for accountability, people-centric governance and justice, and serve the best interests of my voters, because these values are bigger than any one party. I also stand firmly by my belief of a united opposition in the interest of Goa and Goans.
