A heart-wrenching road accident came to light in Odisha on Tuesday. Two women lost their lives in this accident that took place in Jamalpur area near Mangalpur on National Highway 316. The dead also included a woman journalist, Sheela Patnaik, who was working with a leading Odia news channel. The second woman has not been officially identified yet.
According to the information, both the women were going from Bhubaneswar towards Puri on Scooty. Meanwhile, a speeding private bus from behind hit his scooter hard. The collision was so severe that a woman died on the spot.

The sand spread on the road near Mangalpur is also considered to be a major reason for the accident. It is being told that the scooter slipped due to sand, and then a speeding bus coming from behind crushed the scooter. The second woman who was seriously injured in the accident was immediately taken to the nearest hospital, where she also died during treatment. Due to this accident, a wave of mourning has spread in the area, especially in the journalist community, deep sorrow is being seen.
Bus driver absconds after the accident
As soon as information about the incident was received, Pipili police station reached the spot and both the bodies were sent to Puri District Headquarters Hospital for postmortem. The bus driver absconded after the accident, but later surrendered at Sakhigopal police station. The police have started investigating the matter and all aspects of the accident are being investigated. This tragic accident has raised serious questions on accidents occurring due to over-speeding, construction material scattered on the road and carelessness on the national highways.
