Dehradun: Uttarakhand government may ban entry of non-Hindus in all religious places and Ganga ghats of Haridwar Kumbh area. Official sources gave this information here on Tuesday. It was told that an exercise is going on in this regard. The entire Kumbh area including the municipal corporation areas of Haridwar-Rishikesh can be declared as the sacred Sanatan city.
Preparation to ban entry of non-Hindus on 105 Ganga ghats
Sources said that a ban may be imposed on the entry of non-Hindus at all the religious places falling in the Kumbh area and a total of 105 Ganga ghats. A demand in this regard was recently raised by Shri Ganga Sabha, which looks after the management of Har Ki Pauri and surrounding Ganga Ghats in Haridwar, after which State CM Pushkar Singh Dhami has also given indications in this regard.
seriously consider the demand
The Chief Minister said that Haridwar is a revered place of Mother Ganga and saints and the demand raised from there in this regard is being seriously considered. He said that to maintain the sanctity, divinity and beliefs of Haridwar area, all aspects are being studied and old acts are also being looked into in this regard.
Shri Ganga Sabha President Nitin Gautam said that when this area has been named ‘Kumbh Kshetra’ on the basis of the faith of Sanatan Hindus, then it should be declared as Hindu area. He said that the entry of non-Hindus should be completely banned at all the religious places and Ganga ghats falling under this area so that Hindus can perform their worship rituals as per their religious beliefs.
Cited the municipal rules made in 1916
In this regard, Gautam also cited the rules of the Haridwar Municipality made more than 100 years ago in 1916, in which the entire area of seven-eight kilometers around Har Ki Pauri was declared a non-Hindu restricted area. Some saints have also supported the demand of banning the entry of non-Hindus in the Kumbh Mela area.
State Congress Vice President Suryakant Dhasmana termed this proposed step of the state government against the Ganga-Jamuni culture. Dhasmana said, “There is no need to declare the Kumbh area as a restricted area for non-Hindus as only Hindus congregate there.” He alleged that this step of the government is an attempt to grab power by polarizing votes before the 2027 assembly elections.
