Shock to Lalu family in ‘Land for Job Scam’ case, charges framed against entire family in court

New Delhi: Lalu Prasad Yadav’s family has suffered a big shock in the Land for Job scam case. Charges have been framed against Lalu’s entire family in the court. Charges have been framed against family head Lalu Yadav, his wife Rabri Devi and daughter Misa Bharti. Apart from this, charges have also been framed against son Tej Pratap, son Tejashwi and daughter Hema. Also know that out of the total 98 accused in the Land for Job case, the court has acquitted 52 people.

What is Land for Job Scam?

Let us tell you that Land for Job scam is a case of alleged corruption. This happened between 2004 and 2009, when Lalu Prasad Yadav was the Union Railway Minister. It is alleged that Lalu Yadav misused his post of Railway Minister and through this made appointments on ‘Group-D’ posts of Railways. In return for these appointments, he and his family had acquired land from the candidates at concessional rates or as gifts.

Who from Lalu family is included among 98 accused?

During the investigation, apart from Lalu Yadav, a total of 98 people including his wife Rabri Devi, son Tej Pratap Yadav, son Tejashwi Yadav, daughters Misa Bharti and Hema Yadav were made accused in this case. In these, charges have now been framed against Lalu family members, while 52 people have been acquitted.

How much punishment can Lalu family face?

Talking about the possible punishment for Lalu family members after the framing of charges in the Land for Job scam case, Supreme Court lawyer Sandeep Mishra told INDIA TV, ‘Sections 8, 9, 11, 12 and 13 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, all of them have been involved. There is a provision of punishment up to 7 years in all these cases. At the same time, there are also sections 467, 468 and 471, so overall they can be punished with a maximum punishment of 10 years, if all the sentences are run together. But if the court gives an order to start the punishment one after the other, then this punishment may also increase.

What are the provisions regarding different punishments?

He further said, ‘When the court gives the order, it says that all the punishments will run together, then the upper side punishment is the same punishment that the convict has to face. This means that the maximum number of years the convict has to remain in jail is the maximum sentence awarded by the court.
