In Kolkata, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) raided the office of political consultancy firm I-PAC (Indian Political Action Committee) and the residence of its director Prateek Jain. CM Mamata Banerjee also came out on the streets in defense of this raid. At the same time, now the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has reached the Supreme Court in the I-PAC case.
Important files and mobile phones of ED snatched
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has filed a petition in the Supreme Court. During the raid on the premises of I-PAC director Prateek Jain in Kolkata, Mamata Banerjee had snatched important files from the officials. Hard disk and mobile phone were also taken.
ED demands CBI investigation
ED has filed a petition in the Supreme Court under Article 32. In the petition, ED has mentioned the entire showdown that took place during the raid. ED says that the agency was prevented from conducting a fair investigation because of the state machinery. In this case, ED had earlier filed a petition in the Calcutta High Court, the hearing on which is to be held on January 14.
Mamta government also reached Supreme Court
Today itself the West Bengal government has filed a caveat petition in the Supreme Court. Mamta government had said that if ED goes to the Supreme Court, its side should also be heard before giving any decision.
What is caveat petition?
Let us tell you that Caveat is a legal process, in which a person informs the court in advance that there is a possibility of a case or urgent application coming against him, so that he gets a chance to be heard before any unilateral order is passed against him.

The purpose of the caveat is to maintain the principle of natural justice. Caveat petition is filed under Section 148A of the Code of Civil Procedure (CPC), so that the person gets an opportunity to present his views in the court.
