Thiruvananthapuram: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has sounded the trumpet of Kerala elections on behalf of BJP. Shah, who arrived in Kerala for the first time after the BJP-led NDA came to power in the Thiruvananthapuram Municipal Corporation in the recent local body elections, took a dig at the state government while launching the party’s “Mission 2026” programme. He claimed that only BJP can develop Kerala. Also, on Sunday, he targeted the ruling Left party in Kerala over the case of gold missing from Sabarimala and alleged that the state government is “protecting” the real culprits.
Amit Shah said that the assembly elections of Kerala and West Bengal will be held simultaneously and BJP will form the government in both the states. Taking aim at CM Pinarayi Vijayan, Shah said that those who could not protect the property of a holy place like Sabarimala cannot protect the faith of the public also. “Only BJP can protect faith in Kerala,” he said.
Devotees across the country worried over theft of Sabarimala gold
According to Shah, not only the people of Kerala but the devotees of the entire country are worried about the theft of gold in Sabarimala. Shah said that he has seen the FIR registered in this case and the way it is written, it clearly appears that it was prepared to protect the accused. He claimed that two people associated with the Left Democratic Front (LDF) are under suspicion and in such a situation an impartial investigation is not possible. He also alleged that Congress also cannot be acquitted as evidence of involvement of its leaders has come to light.
The case should be handed over to a neutral investigating agency
Amit Shah said, “The Chief Minister should hand over this matter to a neutral investigating agency. BJP will agitate on this issue and run door-to-door awareness campaigns. This is democracy, Vijayan ji, you have to order an investigation by an impartial agency.” Shah’s statement has come after the SIT constituted by the Kerala High Court has arrested Sabarimala tantri Kandararu Rajeevaru in this case.
The workers fought as bravely as a mountain
Taking aim at the ruling Marxist Communist Party (CPM)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF), Shah said, “Communism is over across the world and Congress is on the way to the end all over India.” He said that development of Kerala is possible only under the BJP government. He said, “BJP’s victory in Kerala is not easy, but we are trying our best.” Shah said that the party’s journey here has been difficult, but the workers have fought as hard as a mountain.
BJP’s vote percentage increased
He told that BJP’s vote percentage in Kerala was 11 percent in 2014, which has increased to 16 percent in 2019 and to about 20 percent in 2024. He claimed that it is possible to take it to 30–40 percent in 2026. “Today there is a BJP mayor in Thiruvananthapuram, tomorrow there will be a BJP CM in Kerala,” he said. Amit Shah alleged that there is “match fixing” between LDF and UDF, which has affected the development of the state and both the fronts support each other’s corruption. He also claimed that organizations like PFI, SDPI and Jamaat-e-Islami are the vote bank of LDF and UDF and only BJP is capable of saving Kerala from these forces.
Raising the issue of triple talaq, Amit Shah said that the central government made a law to abolish it, but both LDF and UDF opposed it. He asked the Chief Minister, “Do Muslim women not have the right to live peacefully?” Amit Shah said that the Center made a law to stop corruption related to Waqf properties, but this too was opposed by both the fronts. He also said that it is good that elections are being held simultaneously in Kerala and West Bengal, otherwise there could have been an alliance between Congress and Left parties.
