There has been a new twist in the incident of burning to death of a software engineer in Bengaluru. The police has arrested a young man living in her neighborhood in connection with the murder of this woman software engineer. The investigation revealed that the accused, who had entered inside the woman’s house with the intention of sexually exploiting her, strangulated the woman to death and then set her house on fire to destroy the evidence so that it would appear to be a case of a fire accident.

What is the whole matter?

This incident took place on January 3 in an apartment in Subramaniampura area of Bengaluru East. Police received information that night at around 10.15 pm that a fire was seen in the flat of an apartment in which a 34-year-old software engineer named DK Sharmila lives. The fire force team immediately reached the spot and controlled the fire, but Sharmila tragically died due to burns in the fire.

Post mortem report revealed

At one point even the investigation team felt that this accident had happened due to a sudden short circuit in the flat. Ramamurthy Nagar police registered a case of unnatural death on the complaint of a close friend of the victim. But when this matter was investigated, a different truth emerged. Forensic officials found no evidence of electrical fault and the post-mortem report revealed that Sharmila had died not from burns but from suffocation.

How was the murder revealed?

On the basis of technical evidence, the police reached 18 year old Karnal Kurai, who was a student of PUC and neighbor of Sharmila, when he was strictly interrogated, he made a sensational revelation of murdering Sharmila. Police said that Kurai entered the flat through a sliding window at around 9 pm on January 3. He allegedly demanded sexual intercourse and when Sharmila resisted, he suffocated her by pressing her mouth and nose until she became unconscious.

How was the girl murdered?

To hide the crime, Kurai collected her clothes and other belongings in the bedroom and set them on fire before escaping with her mobile phone.
