What was seen today on the streets of Uttarakhand in the name of Ankita Bhandari was not public anger but politics. The Uttarakhand bandh called by Congress was a complete failure. Neither the public came together, nor the businessmen supported nor the ground reality seemed to support the claims of Congress. Congress called this bandh a voice of justice, but the question is that when the recommendation for CBI investigation had already been given, then what was the bandh for?

After Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami recommended a CBI inquiry on the request of Ankita Bhandari’s parents, many social and business organizations had made it clear that there was no justification for the bandh now. The organizations were of the clear opinion that the process of investigation has started and now it is wrong to do politics of pressure on the streets.

Traders and local people openly protested

On the day of the bandh, ground pictures seemed to tell a different story. Most markets remained open in Dehradun, Haldwani, Haridwar, Almora, Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli and other cities. Life remained normal and common people were seen busy in their daily work. However, meanwhile, reports emerged from many places that Congress workers arrived to force the shops to be closed. This was openly opposed by traders and local people. In many areas, shopkeepers deliberately opened their shops and said – If it is a matter of justice, then question the government, do not trouble the public.

Clash between bandh supporters and traders

At some places the situation became so tense that there were reports of altercations between bandh supporters and traders. There was a clear difference between Congress’s claims and the ground reality. While Congress was calling it a successful bandh, most of the organizations and the general public were seen distancing themselves from it. This was the reason that instead of becoming a statewide mass movement, this bandh remained limited to a political demonstration.

Let us tell you that recently CM Pushkar Singh Dhami has recommended CBI investigation in Ankita Bhandari case. CM Dhami had said that this is a clear proof of the entire case that the state government has ensured justice with fairness, transparency and firmness from beginning to end.
