In the matter of sending notice to former Navy Chief Admiral Arun Prakash, the Election Officer has given clarification and given the reason for the same. In the clarification issued by the Returning Officer, it has been said that no information related to the previous SIR was given in the enumeration form of Admiral Arun Prakash. All the fields related to this were left blank. For this reason his name could not match with the existing list and a notice has been sent to him.

The Election Commission has sent a notice to the former Navy Chief asking him to appear before the election officer and verify his identity. Admiral Arun Prakash, hero of the 1971 India-Pakistan war and Vir Chakra awardee, has been living in Goa for the last 20 years.

What did the election officer say in clarification?

The Election Officer said that the Booth Level Officer of Part No. 43 of Cortalim Assembly Seat collected the enumeration form belonging to Admiral Arun Prakash (Retd.). This form did not contain necessary information related to the previous SIR. This included voter’s name, EPIC number, relative’s name, assembly seat name and number, part number and serial number in the electoral roll. In the absence of these required identification details, the BLO was not able to create automatic linkage between the enumeration form and the existing electoral roll database and the system placed the enumeration form in the unmapped category. The BLO application is designed in such a way that when the prescribed identification information is filled correctly, verification is done from the existing voter roll and the enumeration forms are automatically mapped. In cases where enumeration forms do not map, further verification is necessary. Therefore, as per standard, system-driven procedure, a hearing notice was automatically generated and issued to verify the voter’s information and provide a fair opportunity for eligibility confirmation.

What did Admiral Arun Prakash say?

The former Navy Chief had written about this on social media platform He said that if the current SIR forms are not able to capture the required information, they should be reformed. The 82-year-old Admiral said he and his 78-year-old wife have been called to appear on separate dates, 18 kilometers apart, which is not feasible at his age. He said that they are not demanding any special privileges and will comply with the Commission’s notice.
