Siddaramaiah meets Rahul, responds to speculations about change in CM post in Karnataka

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday dismissed speculations in the media regarding a possible change in the post of Chief Minister in the state. He reiterated that he would abide by the decision of the Congress high command. After a brief meeting with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi at the airport, Siddaramaiah said there is no confusion within the party regarding leadership issues. The Chief Minister clarified that he did not discuss any politics during his meeting with Rahul Gandhi.

There is no such issue within the party- Siddaramaiah

He said, ‘There was no discussion this morning nor is any discussion scheduled in the evening. He (Rahul Gandhi) is going to Gudalur in Tamil Nadu and will return to Mysore to return to Delhi. I will go to see him off. When asked about the news related to the possibility of change of leadership, Siddaramaiah said, ‘What kind of speculation? It is you (media) who are speculating. There is no such issue within the party. This question itself is baseless.

CM said, confusion about what?

On rumors related to possible cabinet reshuffle, the Chief Minister said, ‘What is the confusion about? These are all the discussions happening in newspapers and media; There is no such discussion in the party. After the Congress government in Karnataka completed the halfway point of its five-year tenure on November 20 last year, speculation about a possible change in leadership has intensified.

MLAs are not discussing this right now- CM

Speculations about a change of leadership have been fueled by reports of a ‘power-sharing’ agreement between Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar when the Congress government is formed in 2023. On the news of MLAs revealing the date of leadership change, Siddaramaiah said, ‘Either (Deputy Chief Minister) DK Shivakumar or I will speak on this issue, because only we know about it. Have we talked? No. In fact, lawmakers are not discussing it right now; It is you (media) who are discussing this.

Whatever decision the high command takes will be followed

Asked whether Shivakumar and his supporters were referring to the promise of transfer of power, Siddaramaiah said, ‘When was this said? He didn’t say anything; You are making up stories. Whatever decision the high command takes in the end, we will follow it. On the issue of MLAs publicly commenting on his tenure, Siddaramaiah said, ‘The MLAs have no information. The high command has not informed them. The decision will be taken as per the instructions of the high command.
