The Central Government has filed its status report in the Supreme Court in digital arrest cases. The central government has told the court that the investigation of this case has now been handed over to the CBI. The CBI has now registered a new FIR in this case and started the investigation. The government has told the court that it will take some time to make a concrete and effective plan to deal with cases like digital arrest. For this reason, the Center has asked for one month’s time from the court.
Formation of high-level inter-departmental committee
The Central Government also informed that the Home Ministry has formed a high-level inter-departmental committee to deal with the problem of digital arrest. This committee is working closely with different departments and is also considering the suggestions received from the people.
What will be special in the committee?

This committee is headed by the Special Secretary (Internal Security), Ministry of Home Affairs, who is its chairperson. The members include officers from MeitY, DoT, MEA, Department of Financial Services, Ministry of Law and Justice, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Joint Secretary level officers of RBI, IG rank officers of CBI, NIA, Delhi Police and member secretaries of the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre.
Time is necessary to prepare the plan- Government
The government says that time is necessary to prepare a strong plan keeping in mind all the suggestions, so that in future people can be protected from such online frauds and intimidating cases. Hearing in this matter is to be held in the Supreme Court today. Let us tell you that in the last hearing, the Supreme Court had ordered the investigation of digital arrest cases by CBI.
