AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has targeted Assam Chief Minister Himanta Vishwa Sharma. Owaisi countered the statement of Rs 4 and said that he is giving Rs 2 to Himanta Vishwa Sharma. Owaisi used the word beggar for the Assam CM. Addressing a public meeting in Nizamabad, Owaisi said, “Sharma says, if an auto driver is a Mian Muslim, give him less than the actual fare. If the fare is Rs 5, give him Rs 4. Himanta Biswa Sarma, I am giving you these two rupees, will you take it? I know you beg for two rupees. Should I transfer it to your account?”

Owaisi said the Constitution has given equal rights to everyone and accused Sarma of discrimination against the Muslim community. He said, “Whether you are the Prime Minister or the Chief Minister, no one should be discriminated against. But they say, we will do this to Mia, go to Bangladesh and vote. What do you want to do?”

Uproar over the statement of Himanta Vishwa Sharma

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Vishwa Sharma has been continuously attacking Muslims for illegal infiltration before the elections. He had talked about boycotting Miyan Muslims. In Assam the term is commonly used for Bengali-speaking Muslims. On his statement, Sharma had said that he had not coined the word Miya Muslim. Bengali speaking Muslims use this term for themselves. Bangladeshi migrants are an important issue in Assam and Himanta Vishwa Sharma wants to make this issue bigger before the elections.

Struggle continues in Assam

Political tussle continues before the assembly elections in Assam. As the struggle for power intensifies, Sharma has toughened his stance and reiterated his campaign to expel illegal Bangladeshi immigrants from the state. He said last week that he had launched a war to drive them out of the state. “MIA means Bangladeshi infiltrators, and we have decided to make every effort to send back all of them from Assam. This is a war for us and a matter of life and death,” he said.

Mia appeals to harass people

On 27 January, Himanta Vishwa Sharma urged the people of Assam to continue stalking and harassing members of the Mia community. “If we don’t do this, the infiltrators will think that the people of Assam are weak. We are doing this for our survival,” he said.
