Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has given clarification while rejecting the claims of giving agricultural concessions to America in the trade agreement between India and America. He claimed that the interests of farmers and producers have been 100 percent protected in the agreement. He termed the claims of giving up sovereignty in the agreement as ‘nonsense’ and termed the people saying so as ‘quite ignorant’.

Goyal on Sunday (February 8) rejected notions of compromise on sensitive issues and accused some political elements of instigating protests by misleading farmers by distorting facts. “The agreement resulted in a balanced interaction in goods, services and non-agricultural sectors, where both countries maintained a balance between offensive and defensive priorities without compromising India’s Lakshman Rekha,” he said.

No concession given on India’s sensitive products – Goyal

Refuting the allegations being made by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) and its breakaway faction in protest against the plan of nationwide protests, Goyal said, “We have not given any concession or concession to the US on India’s sensitive products like soybean, maize, poultry, cereals, sugar, fruits, pulses, oilseeds, animal feed, non-alcoholic beverages, flour, starch, essential oils, fuel ethanol or tobacco.”
