Ajit Doval held high level meeting in Canada, government said no support to violent extremists

National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval visited Ottawa, the capital of Canada during 6-7 February 2026. During this visit, Ajit Doval met Nathalie Drouin, Deputy Clerk to the Prime Minister of Canada and National Security and Intelligence Advisor on 07 February. An important message to emerge from the meeting was that violent extremist groups have no support from the Government of Canada.

At the same time, in the meeting, both sides appreciated the progress made in the ongoing initiatives to ensure the security of their respective countries and citizens. The meeting was part of regular bilateral security talks between the two sides. The two countries agreed to a joint action plan to advance bilateral cooperation on national security and law enforcement issues, which will promote practical cooperation in line with priorities.

Consent to appoint liaison officer

It was also decided in the meeting that India and Canada would appoint security and law-enforcement liaison officers to each other. This will help in facilitating bilateral communication and timely sharing of information. In particular, cooperation will be strengthened on common concerns such as illicit drug trafficking, especially fentanyl precursors, and cross-border organized crime networks.

Additionally, both sides agreed to pursue formal cooperation on exchange of information related to cyber security issues. Additionally, it was decided to continue discussions on cooperation in matters related to fraud and immigration enforcement in line with domestic laws and international obligations.

Earlier, on 06 February 2026, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval also held a meeting with Canada’s Public Safety Minister Gary Anandasangari.
