Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant on Monday said that ‘Gunda Raj’ is not acceptable to him. He asked a lawyer who alleged assault inside the court premises in a district court in the national capital on February 7, to approach the Chief Justice of Delhi High Court.
Case of beating of lawyers in Tis Hazari Court
A lawyer mentioned his plea for urgent hearing before a bench of Chief Justice Surya Kant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice NV Anjaria. The lawyer said, ‘I appeared in the court of Additional District Judge (ADJ) Harjeet Singh Pal at Tis Hazari Court. I appeared on behalf of the accused. The complainant’s lawyer along with several goons attacked me.
The incident happened on 7 February
The lawyer further said, ‘They beat me and the judge was sitting there. All the members of the court were present there. On this the CJI said, ‘This incident happened on February 7. Have you informed this to the Chief Justice of Delhi High Court?
Told to approach High Court
CJI Surya Kant said, ‘Write a letter to the Chief Justice and inform me also. The Chief Justice of the High Court should take cognizance. Action will be taken at the administrative level. This kind of ‘Gunda Raj’ is not acceptable to us. This means the collapse of the rule of law. Along with this, the bench asked the lawyer to approach the concerned court.
