The rhetoric regarding the CM’s chair is intense in Karnataka. Congress MLA Iqbal Hussain said that at least 80 party MLAs have given the name of Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to the high command for the post of Chief Minister. Meanwhile, Karnataka Deputy CM DK Shivakumar has left for a two-day visit to New Delhi, where he is scheduled to meet top party leaders.

DK Shivkumar is not speaking openly

His visit has once again given rise to speculations about change in the post of CM in the state. However, DK Shivakumar is not saying anything openly about this tour. Before leaving for New Delhi, he only said that along with being the Deputy CM, he is also the State President. Because of that, we get the opportunity to meet the high command.

DK Shivkumar should be given a chance- Hussain

On the question of making DK Shivakumar the CM, Congress MLA Hussain said, ‘We have left this matter to the high command. 80-90 MLAs have requested the high command to give DK Shivkumar a chance for the post of Chief Minister. We are a disciplined party and we have to behave decently.

In politics one has to work with discipline

Along with this, the Congress MLA said, ‘We do not like that he (Yatindra Siddaramaiah) is embarrassing the high command by repeatedly speaking in favor of his father. Every father loves his son and the son loves his father, but in politics we have to work with discipline. One should not provoke others with such statements.

DK Shivkumar should be given a chance in this tenure

Iqbal Hussain said, ‘We all wish that DK Shivakumar should be given a chance. Everyone wants this, but we should not create any confusion with rhetoric, that is why everyone is silent and some people are talking among themselves. With an open heart, as I have said from day one, it is my wish that DK Shivakumar be given a chance in this tenure.

Congress MLC Channaraj Hattiholi also said, ‘I wish that DK Shivakumar becomes the Chief Minister soon in this term.’ Last week, Yatindra Siddaramaiah had said that the Congress High Command has given the green signal to Siddaramaiah to remain the Chief Minister for the entire term.

Responding to Yatindra’s statement in favor of his father, DK Shivakumar said, ‘I welcome everything he says respectfully. Since he has spoken as if he is the head of the high command, let us accept him as such.

The tussle regarding CM’s chair is going on from November 2025.

The tussle over leadership in Karnataka Congress began in November 2025, when the government completed half of its five-year term. Along with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, Home Minister G Parameshwara is also in the race for the top post.
