Bangladesh Nationalist Party has seen a tsunami in the general elections held in Bangladesh. BNP and its allies have won 213 out of 299 seats in the elections. On the other hand, the deposits of most of the candidates of Pakistan-backed fundamentalist Jamaat have been confiscated. Shafiqur Rehman’s Jamaat-e-Islami party has been able to win only 68 seats. At the same time, the Nationalist Citizen Party i.e. NCP, which emerged after the students’ movement, has been reduced to 6 seats. After the election results, it is confirmed that former PM Khaleda Zia’s son Tariq Rehman will become the next PM. BNP’s victory in the elections is also a relief news for India.
