New Delhi: Just before Valentine’s Day, All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has released a video. In this, Board Secretary Maulana Mohammad Omar Deen has appealed to the Muslims to completely stay away from celebrating this day. Maulana said that celebrating Valentine’s Day is like giving a feast to “Ajab-e-Ilahi”. Maulana cautioned Muslims that such festivals are against Islamic principles and should be avoided. This message of AIMPLB is becoming increasingly viral on social media.

‘Valentine was murdered along with Mehbooba’

In the video, Maulana Mohammad Omar Deen explained in detail, ‘Valentine was a Christian man, who was murdered along with his lover for the crime of adultery. Later people started celebrating Valentine’s Day as a memorial to him by calling him a martyr-e-mohabbat. It is not acceptable for Muslims to celebrate a day as a memorial to an evil person. Muslims should understand this very well that celebrating Valentine’s Day is inviting the punishment of Allah.

Do you know why we celebrate Valentine’s Day?

Valentine’s Day is celebrated every year on 14 February across the world as a symbol of love and romance. Its roots lie in the Roman Empire of the 3rd century. At that time, there was a Christian priest named Saint Valentine who was sentenced to death by Emperor Claudius II on 14 February 270 AD. The emperor had banned the marriage of soldiers because if they were married, they would become weak in battle. Saint Valentine secretly married many couples, for which he was caught, thrown in jail and later murdered.

This festival gradually became popular

There is also a story that Valentine restored the sight of the jailer’s blind daughter by writing her a note saying ‘Your Valentine’. Later in the Middle Ages, poets like Geoffrey Chaucer associated it with love day and it gradually became popular. The tradition of cards, roses and chocolates began in the 19th century. In today’s times, this festival has started lasting for several days and the market also plays a big role in it.
