Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said on Sunday that the discussion and subsequent voting on the proposal to remove Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla from the post will be held on March 9. Rijiju said that the second phase of the budget session is scheduled from March 9 to April 2. He said the session would be ‘interesting’ as several ‘important’ bills would be introduced in Parliament for discussion and passage.
Voting will take place only after discussion
Along with this, he warned that if the opposition parties continue the protest like in the first phase of the session, then ultimately it will not be good for them. He said, ‘The no-confidence motion brought against the Speaker will be discussed in the Lok Sabha on March 9. According to the rule, this is discussed on the first day itself. Voting will take place after discussion.
Budget session started from January 28
The budget session of Parliament began on January 28 with the President’s address to the joint sitting of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha. On February 1, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the budget in Parliament. The next phase of the budget session will resume on March 9 and will end on April 2.
Plan to identify specific ministries
Rijiju, who is on a visit to his parliamentary constituency in Arunachal West, said the government is planning to identify specific ministries for discussion during the second phase of the session. He said, ‘In the Lok Sabha we will discuss the demands for grants in five ministries and in the Rajya Sabha we will discuss the functioning of five other ministries. The ministries will not be discussed in the Rajya Sabha, but on the demands for grants.
The second session will be very interesting
The minister said the government will select five ministries for discussion in the Rajya Sabha and then select five ministries for the Lok Sabha. He said that the second phase of the budget session will be interesting and said, ‘If the opposition disrupts the proceedings of the House, we will get it passed without any discussion. This will be a severe blow for them.
Important topic will be discussed
When asked why this phase of the session would be particularly interesting, he said, ‘We will bring some important bills, including a very important bill. We will not reveal what that bill is now, but in the second phase we will discuss a very important topic. We will pass all these bills.
