The Supreme Court on Monday refused to hear the petitions related to the hate speeches made by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma continuously targeting Muslims. The petitions in the case were filed by Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader Annie Raja and Assamese scholar Dr Hiren Gohain. A bench of Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Vipul Pancholi said that it would be better for the High Court to deal with the matter.
Hearing may take place in High Court
Bar and Ben“All these issues can be effectively dealt with by the jurisdictional High Court. We see no reason to hear this matter here, therefore, we refer the petitioner to the jurisdictional Assam High Court,” Ch quoted the court as saying. The court requested the Chief Justice of the High Court to give priority to hearing the case, as the lawyers have cited the urgency in the matter.
