India-wide AI tool for farmers to be launched tomorrow

What is the news?

Bharat will launch a new Artificial Intelligence (AI) based multilingual tool named Vistaar. It has been prepared to provide information to the farmers in their own language. Farmers will be able to access this service through mobile app or just by making a phone call. Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan and Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma will launch it in Jaipur. Farmers will be able to connect to this digital service by dialing number 155261.

What will this work?

Bharat-Vistaar will provide information like crop planning, farming methods, pest control, weather forecast and market prices. Additionally, it will also help in eligibility, application process and complaint resolution of government schemes. After the launch, farmers will be able to easily get information about many major central schemes including PM-KISAN, Crop Insurance Scheme, Soil Health Card and Kisan Credit Card. Along with this, alerts related to weather and pests will also be available from time to time.

The announcement was made in the budget

This scheme was announced by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in the Budget 2026-27. He had told that this tool will connect Agristack portal and ICAR’s agriculture package with AI system. Its objective is to increase farming productivity and help farmers take better decisions. The government has made a provision of Rs 150 crore on this project for the next financial year. Initially it will be available in Hindi and English.

Bharat-Vistaar is being designed not just as an app but as a national digital framework. It will work by linking the central and state systems and will also maintain the autonomy of the states. AI startups, technology companies and research institutes will cooperate in this. It will be linked to initiatives like India AI Mission and Bhashini. Farmers’ feedback will go directly into the system, through which policies and research can be improved.
