What did the professor of Galgotias University say on the controversy?

Following the controversy over the display of a Chinese-made robodog at the AI Impact Summit, Dr Aishwarya Srivastava, a professor at Galgotias University, said, “We never claimed that we created it (the robodog), it was just a part of our AI investment. It was very misinterpreted.”

Earlier, amid rising tension over the controversy, the institution had issued an official clarification, raising concerns about “propaganda” against the university. The university said robotic programming is part of its effort to teach students to build AI applications so they can develop and apply real-world skills using tools and resources available around the world.

“We at Galgotias, the faculty and students, are deeply saddened by the propaganda campaign against our university. We want to make it clear that robotic programming is part of our efforts to enable students to learn AI programming and develop and deploy real-world skills using tools and resources available across the globe as developing AI talent is the need of the hour,” the statement said. The statement further said, “The vision of our university is focused on student learning and innovation and we provide students with access to modern technology so that they can gain practical experience and become future-ready. Spreading negativity can demotivate students who are working hard to innovate, learn and build their skills using global technology.”
