Entry of indigenous robot amid robodog controversy

What is the news?

Robodog has become the most talked about topic at the India AI Impact Summit 2026. Amidst the Chinese robot being shown by Galgotias University, now an Indian startup based in Bengaluru has shown its own robot dog to the world. A company named General Autonomy shared the video of its indigenous four-legged robot ‘Param’ on social media and said that it is completely made in India.

What is the ‘ultimate’ robot dog?

According to the company, Param is a four-legged robot, which has been designed and manufactured in India. It was not assembled or imported, but was developed indigenously by a team of engineers. However, it uses limited foreign components such as the Nvidia Jetson GPU and some actuators. The company claims that the rest of the control system, mechanical design and software have been completely prepared by the Indian team.

What can this robot be used for?

Such four-legged robots can move easily on difficult and bumpy roads. These can be used for purposes like industrial inspection, disaster relief, security patrolling and research. Where wheeled machines get stuck, these robots can do better work. Experts say such projects will help advance robotics and automation in India and strengthen technological self-reliance.

Increasing progress of robotics in India

Tech experts believe that such indigenous robots are a big sign towards hardware manufacturing in India. India has long been known for its software capabilities, but now companies are also working on mechanical design and control systems. If such projects are successful then the use of domestic technology may increase in future in areas like defence, industry and public security. This can also gradually reduce dependence on foreign technology.
