Tamil Nadu: DMDK changed sides before assembly elections, formed alliance with DMK

DMDK has changed sides before the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. The party has announced an alliance with DMK for the upcoming elections. However, DMDK and AIADMK contested the 2024 Lok Sabha elections together. This is being considered a big change related to Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. Actor Vijayakanth’s party DMDK has decided to join the DMK alliance. In the 2021 assembly elections, this party contested alone and did not win any seat. This time DMDK has strengthened its position by forming an alliance with the ruling party.

In 2024, the party joined the AIADMK-led alliance and contested five Lok Sabha seats, but could not win any seat. In such a situation, after two years, efforts are on to change sides and come to power with DMK by winning.

Premlata Vijayakanth announced

DMDK General Secretary Premalatha Vijayakanth formally announced this alliance after meeting DMK Chief MK Stalin in Chennai. He said, “We have entered into an alliance with the DMK. Our party cadre also wanted the same. This alliance should have been formed when Captain Vijayakanth was alive. The number of seats will be decided after both the parties form election committees and hold talks on it. Today, we have entered into an alliance with the DMK.” This is the first time that DMDK has formed an alliance with DMK.

Elections will be held in April-May

Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu can be held in the months of April and May. The tenure of the current government is till May 10. In such a situation, the Election Commission will have to complete the elections before this date. For this reason, speculations are being made that voting and counting of votes may take place in the first week of April and May.
