Former president of Assam unit of Congress, Bhupen Kumar Bora joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday. Bhupen Kumar Bora joined the ruling party in the presence of BJP state president Dilip Saikia. Bora now became a member of the BJP during a function held at ‘Vajpayee Bhawan’, the headquarters of BJP’s Assam unit.
Resigned from Congress on 16 February
Along with him, former Congress worker Sanju Bora also joined BJP. Bhupen Bora had resigned from Congress on February 16, which was not accepted by the party high command and senior leaders reached his residence. Rahul Gandhi also talked to him.
CM met Bora at his home
Bhupen Bora had sought time to reconsider his decision but the next day Chief Minister Himanta Vishwa Sarma visited his residence and announced that he would join the BJP on February 22. Elections for the 126-member assembly of Assam are proposed in March-April. Now the stir regarding this has intensified.
