What is the news?
Former Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan has got a big relief from Patiala House Family Court of Delhi. In fact, on February 24, the court ordered his ex-wife Ayesha Mukherjee to return approximately Rs 5.72 crore to Dhawan. In such a situation, the long-running family dispute between the Indian cricketer and his ex-wife now seems to be ending. Let’s take a look at this news.
What is this matter?
Shikhar and Ayesha were married in 2012 and got divorced almost a decade later in 2021. Ayesha lives in Australia. In such a situation, the Australian court had ordered to give the money received from the sale of Shikhar’s two properties to Ayesha in the name of ‘property settlement’. Shikhar said that he had bought these properties with his own earnings, but Ayesha had pressurized him to get them transferred in her name.
Court’s decision came in favor of Shikhar Dhawan
Delhi Court Judge Devendra Kumar Garg ruled that Australia’s ‘property settlement’ rules are different from the Hindu Marriage Act. In India, there is a different way of dividing property after divorce and hence the order of the Australian court is not valid in India. Shikhar does not need to give money to Ayesha. Along with this, Delhi Court asked Ayesha to return this amount with 9 percent annual interest.
