The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) on Wednesday apologized after being slammed by the Supreme Court over a chapter related to ‘judicial corruption’ in its Class 8 textbook and said the book will be rewritten in consultation with the appropriate authorities. Let us tell you that after the rebuke of the court, NCERT, which is responsible for the school education curriculum, has stopped the distribution of the textbook just a few hours after removing this eighth class book from its website. Now the book will be rewritten. Let us tell you that this matter is also going to be heard in the Supreme Court today.

Mistake was made unknowingly – NCERT apologized

A senior National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) official said, “Some inappropriate textual content and error of judgment have been inadvertently included in the relevant chapter of the Class 8 book. NCERT holds the judiciary in the highest regard and considers it the guardian of the Indian Constitution and protector of fundamental rights.” There is no intention to question or undermine the jurisdiction of any constitutional institution.

The book will be rewritten – NCERT

NCERT said, “As part of our continuous review process, we welcome constructive suggestions. Therefore, as per requirement, after consultation with the concerned authority, the said material will be rewritten and it will be made available to the students of class 8 at the beginning of the academic session 2026-27.

Supreme Court took suo motu cognizance and reprimanded

A bench of Supreme Court Chief Justice Surya Kant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice Vipul M Pancholi took suo motu cognizance of “objectionable” comments made about the judiciary in the NCERT textbook. The step was taken after a special mention was made by senior advocates Kapil Sibal and Abhishek Singhvi for urgent hearing of the case. Chief Justice Surya Kant took strong exception to the chapter on judicial corruption in the NCERT Class 8 textbook and said no one will be allowed to defame the judiciary or discredit its impartiality and dignity.
