Karnataka BJP President B.Y. Vijayendra has launched a scathing attack on the Congress government led by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He has accused the government of just lying and cheating instead of solving the burning problems of the state. Addressing a press conference at the BJP state office, he said the Chief Minister, who has presented the state budget a record-breaking 16 times, should now offer solutions instead of making excuses. He said, “The Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister (DK Shivakumar) should stop this lying and cheating. The experienced Chief Minister, who broke the record of Devraj Urs by presenting 16 budgets, should provide solutions to the burning problems of the state.
“A huge shortage of medicines”
Vijayendra cornered the government over the pathetic condition of the health sector in the state. He alleged that there is an acute shortage of medicines in government hospitals for the last two months, due to which poor patients are forced to buy medicines from private shops. The government was accused of not paying Rs 143 crore to the agency providing CT scan and MRI services, thereby affecting the diagnosis of poor patients and pregnant women.
Vijayendra claimed that out of political vendetta, Jan Aushadhi Kendras running inside government hospitals are being closed, causing huge losses to patients getting cheap medicines. He said that 108 ambulance workers and doctors are forced to protest on the streets due to non-payment of salaries.
“Government of middlemen”
The BJP President described the Congress government as a government of middlemen. He claimed that there are large-scale irregularities in drug procurement and reputed companies are shying away from participating in the tender process due to the fear of 15-20 percent commission. He raised the question why medicine tenders are being given to only one private person and why medicines are being purchased at three times more than the market price.
Question on promise of jobs
Speaking on the issue of youth, Vijayendra reminded the election promises of Congress. BJP alleged that Congress had promised to fill all the vacancies within a year of coming to power and Rahul Gandhi had also talked about filling 2.5 lakh vacancies. He said that even after two and a half years have passed, the government has not taken concrete steps in this direction. Despite getting approval for more than 40,000 posts from the Finance Department, the recruitment process has not been started.
