Mumbai: Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and his delegation have reached India. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has reached Taj Mahal Palace in Mumbai. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, Carney’s visit, which will last from February 27 to March 2, has been initiated at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and signals concerted efforts to revive diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Tour started from Mumbai
The arrival of the Canadian Prime Minister is an important step in the continued efforts to strengthen bilateral relations and strategic cooperation. Starting the visit from India’s financial capital, Carney is prioritizing economic synergy and will spend his first two days consulting with CEOs, financial experts and representatives of Canadian pension funds to create a strong business environment for the mission.
Will meet PM Modi at Hyderabad House
The highlight of his visit will be delegation-level talks at Hyderabad House, a formal follow-up to previous talks held in Kananaskis and Johannesburg in 2025. His delegation-level talks with PM Modi are scheduled on March 2 at Hyderabad House. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the objective of these talks is to review the India-Canada strategic partnership in various sectors including energy, critical minerals and research and to align government policies with the interests of the private sector through the India-Canada CEO Forum.
Improved relations between the two countries
After a “sharp deterioration” in relations between Canada and India in the last few years, relations between the two countries are once again improving. The allegations, made by the previous Trudeau government, had led to a diplomatic standoff and mutual expulsion of officials. However, the current mission reflects a fundamental change in Ottawa’s stance. Senior Canadian officials have now made it clear that they no longer believe that India is linked to any crimes taking place in Canada.
