Sri Venkateswara Temple of Tirumala closed due to lunar eclipse, when will the doors open?

The first lunar eclipse of the year 2026 is going to occur today on March 3. In view of the eclipse, the famous Sri Venkateswara Temple of Tirumala will remain closed for about 11 hours today. The eclipse will last from 3:32 PM to 6:47 PM today evening. As per temple rules, Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam authorities have closed the temple at 9 AM, six hours before the time of the eclipse. Due to the lunar eclipse, puja and aarti have been stopped in various temples across the country. This process will start again after the lunar eclipse.

Only security staff inside the temple

According to the information, at 3 am in the morning, the priests opened the temple and performed good morning service, archana and thomala service. After completing the rituals and prasad, VIP break darshan and sarva darshan was allowed for some time. Darshan for devotees was closed at 8 AM. At 9 AM, the priests and TTD officials closed Bangaru Vakili, then the silver entrance near the flagpole and finally the main Mahadwaram. Right now, only the security staff is inside the temple.

When will the temple open?

After the eclipse is over, the temple will reopen at 7:30 PM. Purification works like recitation of holy words and cleaning of the temple will be done in the temple. Special worship will be done to the main deity. Devotees will be allowed darshan from 8:30 PM onwards. Due to the eclipse, darshan has been stopped for about 12 and a half hours.

Annaprasadam will be available after purification

TTD has also closed Annaprasadam Complex, Laddu Counter and Vaikuntam Queue Complex. After purification, distribution of Annaprasadam will resume tonight. Sale of laddus will resume from 8 pm. Devotees will be allowed to enter the Q complex from 7 pm onwards. All daily services including Kalyanotsavam, Dolotsavam, Arjit Brahmotsavam and Sahasra Deepalankaran Seva, as well as Break Darshan and Srivani Trust Darshan, were canceled for today due to the lunar eclipse.

Let us inform that due to the eclipse, major temples of Uttar Pradesh including Ram Temple in Ayodhya, Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi, Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi Temple in Mathura and Banke Bihari Temple have also been kept closed. Apart from this, other major temples will also remain closed during the eclipse.
