Downloads of Anthropic’s cloud have increased

What is the news?

Following the dispute with the Pentagon, Anthropic’s cloud continues to grow in daily active users and new app installs on mobile devices. U.S. downloads of the cloud’s mobile apps consistently exceed those of ChatGPT, reports app intelligence provider AppFigures. According to company estimates, the latest data as of March 2 shows that Cloud has 1.49 lakh daily downloads, while ChatGPT has 1.24 lakh downloads.

The statistics of users have been like this

The cloud’s apps had 11.3 million daily active users on iOS and Android devices as of March 2, a 183 percent increase from about 4 million at the beginning of the year, SimilarWeb reported. It has more than 5 million daily active users as of early February. During the same period, ChatGPT downloads declined by 5.6 percent till March 2. The average download that week was 22 lakh/day.

Other models also lag behind

The growing popularity of the cloud has put it ahead of other AI apps like Perplexity and Microsoft Copilot in terms of daily active users, but behind top rivals like ChatGPT. One reason for this is that the surge in cloud usage began at the end of the month, following Anthropic’s escalating dispute with the Pentagon. If these trends continue in March, its ranking may go up even higher.

Due to this reason users increased

The controversy stemmed from Anthropic’s refusal to allow the US Department of Defense to deploy its AI models for mass surveillance and autonomous weapons. After this, the Trump administration banned the use of cloud in government departments. Users have liked this stance of the company, due to which its downloads have increased. On the other hand, OpenAI made an agreement with the Pentagon, due to which users are opposing it and it suffered losses.
