At Raisina Dialogue 2026, CDS Anil Chauhan spoke openly on the issues of power, autonomy and energy in the data center era. During this, he said that Artificial Intelligence is going to shape the fight in the future and a lot of power will be required to increase the defense capabilities. He said that India is taking small steps to run a dedicated AI setup for the defense sector.
General Anil Chauhan, giving the example of the ongoing war between America, Israel and Iran, said that the importance of Artificial Intelligence in these wars shows how big a role it plays. Till now, wars were based on platforms where we had tanks, aircraft, ships, submarines, but now we need data, networks, integration and intelligence.
Independent source of energy is necessary
Philippines General Romeo S. Bronner Jr. stressed the need for independent energy infrastructure for his country’s military. He said the Philippines needs an independent energy infrastructure for its military. Especially when China’s attacks in the South China Sea are intensifying. Recent US attacks in Venezuela and Iran have shown that cutting off energy is often the first step, making independent energy sources critical. “The Philippines has launched three key initiatives: an AI program, the National Nuclear Energy Safety Act to allow small nuclear plants to be built on its islands, and a 500-MW data center with 1,000 servers to support AI development,” he said. This will fulfill the energy needs of the country.
Nuclear reactor’s ability to generate energy
Scientist Vivek Lal said that nuclear reactors can generate a lot of electricity in a small space. They provide stable power for AI and data systems and can scale up or down output according to demand. Divita Ashiya, Managing Director, Fortescue Capital, said that there is increasing sensitivity on sovereign data compliance regarding where the data is located and where it is processed. When processing happens at multiple centers it becomes difficult to track and we are still working on that weakness.
