New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta today said that BJP is the only party which cares about women in politics. He said, “Indira Gandhi was the PM, but there was not a single woman in her ministry. During her tenure, she did not allow any other woman to grow in the Congress, you remember this. If any other woman has grown today, then her family has grown.”
women in important positions
The Delhi Chief Minister said, “It was our party which got the 33 per cent women’s reservation bill passed in Parliament because of our Prime Minister…Which other party had the courage and will power to bring such a law? Today women are holding positions ranging from President to Chief Minister and Finance Minister. Apart from our party, no other party has allowed women to come forward for such responsible posts…It is our party which promoted women-centric programs like Ujjwala and Swachhta and women-centric governance, And I myself am a ‘real’ example of this. I was made the Chief Minister of the National Capital and was given the opportunity and complete freedom to work.
Criticism of Mamta Banerjee
Rekha Gupta criticized West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for insulting the protocol and dignity of the presidency. When the President visited the state last week, Mamata Banerjee was accused of insulting the dignity of the office of the President.
The Chief Minister of Delhi said, “It is very important to maintain constitutional dignity. This is a field where protocol and the post of the Constitution, its dignity is important. Party politics does not come anywhere in it. The President is the first citizen of the country and deserves respect. I understand, when the President came to her state, it was Mamata Banerjee’s responsibility to look at that protocol from the same perspective. This should never be a subject of politics. If the President had gone to a social program, then definitely you had to make arrangements, somewhere in this. He hasn’t made a mistake somewhere and this is his mistake too.”
Earlier, Rekha Gupta had written in a post on her social media handle
Who is your favorite female politician?
When asked who she considered her favorite female politician, Rekha Gupta replied: “Favorite female politician, Sushma Swaraj ji. Very sweet personality, got to work with her a lot, she was as gentle as she was brilliant. She handled a difficult ministry like the Ministry of External Affairs, she has always been an icon for women in politics.”
When asked why she added “Beti Badhao, Beti Padhao” to the ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ slogan, Rekha Gupta replied: “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao, Beti Badhao, Boy Ko Samhaao. Yes.. Sure. The way accidents happen in the society and one feels guilty after hearing about such sins, it seems that he too is someone’s son. A daughter who became a victim, it was someone’s son who did wrong to her. I say, every family will have to tell their son what to do and what not to do. When every family has those values, then the whole society will be ashamed of it. It is the responsibility of the parents to make their daughters understand what to do.”
