The Union Cabinet has approved the proposal to declare Madurai Airport as an international airport. Many major decisions have been taken in the cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnav told during the briefing that the Cabinet has also approved to extend the Jal Jeevan Mission till December 2028. He said that the government has approved projects worth a total of Rs 8.8 lakh crore.
Major decisions of the Union Cabinet-
- The Central Government has given the green signal to its most ambitious project Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0. The aim of this new phase is to provide tap connections to 12.6 crore rural households in the country by December 2028. The government has increased its total budget to Rs 8.69 lakh crore.
- A major decision has also been taken to declare the airport of Madurai, the historical city of Tamil Nadu, as an international airport. Madurai is a major cultural and religious centre. After it gets international status, not only will it be easier for foreign tourists and pilgrims, but local traders will also grow and exports will also get a big boost.
- In the railway sector, a budget of more than Rs 4,400 crore has been fixed for laying the fourth line between Santragachi-Kharagpur and Sainthia-Pakur.
- To improve the road network, 4-laning of Badnawar-Thandla-Timarwani (NH 752D) and elevated road connecting Jewar Airport to Faridabad have been approved.
- The Cabinet has approved Rs 3,630.77 crore for the 31.42 km long greenfield road connecting Jewar International Airport to Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. The most important part of this project is the 11 kilometer long elevated road. This will provide high-speed connectivity to the people of South Delhi, Faridabad and Gurugram to reach Jewar Airport.
