LIVE: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be on a tour of Kerala and Tamil Nadu today, where he will gift development projects worth a total of Rs 16,450 crore. The Prime Minister will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of projects worth about Rs 10,800 crore in Ernakulam, Kerala. In this, the foundation stone of a new unit will be laid in Kochi Refinery, which will provide raw material for making plastics and medical equipment and reduce dependence on imports. Also, new roads and Kozhikode bypass will be inaugurated under the Mumbai-Kanyakumari corridor, which will reduce hours of travel to minutes. The Prime Minister will also inaugurate rural roads, modern railway stations and a large floating solar power plant in Kollam.
After this, the Prime Minister will inaugurate works worth about Rs 5,650 crore in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu. Here the main emphasis is on the gas pipeline network, which will provide cooking gas to about 8.8 lakh homes in the Nilgiris and Erode districts and more than 200 CNG stations will be opened. To improve connectivity, PM Modi will inaugurate 89 rural roads in Tamil Nadu and a large lube blending plant in Chennai. Also, several other trains will be flagged off, including two new Amrit Bharat Express to connect Tamil Nadu with neighboring states and eastern India. All these projects aim to create new opportunities for trade, tourism and employment in South India.
