IPL 2026: Gujarat Titans appoint Vijay Dahiya as their assistant coach

What is the news?

Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 is scheduled to start from March 28. Gujarat Titans (GT) has appointed Vijay Dahiya as its assistant coach for the upcoming season. Last Tuesday, GT included Matthew Hayden in the coaching staff. Dahiya has joined this team right after Hayden. Earlier, Dahiya has also coached with Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

Dahiya has worked with Delhi and Lucknow

In 2019, Dahiya was made the talent scout head of Delhi Capitals (DC). His job was to find new talent for DC. After this he moved to Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) as an assistant coach. He worked in the Andy Flower-led support staff since LSG’s inception in 2022, but was parted ways with the team ahead of the IPL 2024 season.

Dahiya has played ODI and Test for India

Former wicketkeeper player Dahiya had played 2 Test and 19 ODI matches for India. He scored 2 unbeaten runs in the only test innings. Apart from this, in 15 ODI innings, he scored 216 runs with an average of 16.61 and strike rate of 80.89, which also included a half-century. He represented Delhi team in domestic cricket.

GT will play its first match against PBKS

The schedule of the first phase of IPL 2026 has been announced, in which GT will play its first match against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on March 31. After this, GT will play its second match against Rajasthan Royals (RR) on 4th April. GT will face Delhi Capitals in its third match on April 8 and LSG in the fourth match on April 12. GT will play only 4 matches in the first phase schedule.
