New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha raised the issue of mobile recharge in Parliament on Wednesday. Raghav Chadha criticized telecom companies for blocking incoming calls when prepaid recharge is over. He appealed to the regulators to protect consumers. The MP said that users should receive calls even after the validity is over. This has sparked a debate on telecom policy.
Why do incoming calls stop after recharge plan expires?
MP Raghav Chadha said that if a recharge plan expires then it makes sense to stop outgoing calls. But why are incoming calls also blocked? Once the validity expires, people cannot be contacted and important messages like bank OTP are also not received. In an emergency or urgent situation, this can completely cut off a person.
Raghav Chadha demanded from the government
Raghav Chadha said that my demand from the government is that after the last recharge, incoming calls and SMS should continue for at least one year so that important communication does not stop. The second demand is that the mobile number should not be deactivated for at least three years after the last recharge. Telecom operators should introduce low-cost “incoming only” plans for users who need to keep their numbers active only for essential calls, OTPs and government services.
The Aam Aadmi Party MP said that I also raised the issue of 28-day recharge “monthly” plans. If something is called monthly then it should be according to a calendar month of 30-31 days. Due to the 28 day cycle, the consumer actually has to pay for 13 recharges in a year. (28 days × 13 recharge = 364 days)
Said this regarding recharge plan
Telecom operators should sync their recharge plans with actual calendar months and not with 28 day plans. Today mobile phone is not a luxury. This is a lifeline. Prepaid recharge customers deserve fairness and transparency. Not clever little things. He said that I raised concerns related to India’s prepaid recharge customers, who constitute about 90% of the country’s 125 crore mobile users.
