How did the ship get attacked?
In fact, there was news of attack on Marshall Islands flagged oil tanker MT Sefsi Vishnu during cargo loading operation near Khor Al-Zubair Port near Basra, Iraq. According to initial reports, a white unmanned speedboat, suspected to be loaded with explosives, approached the starboard side of the ship at speed and collided with the tanker. After this collision, there was a big explosion and fire on the ship. There were two explosions one after the other in the tanker and the entire ship caught fire.

After the incident, all the crew members present on the ship abandoned the ship and jumped into the sea to save their lives. An STS tug nearby rescued him and took him out safely. The Iraqi Coast Guard also evacuated the remaining 27 crew members on board, including 15 Indians and 12 Filipinos. The ship’s Additional Chief Engineer (Superintendent) Deonandan Prasad Singh was killed in this attack. Singh was originally from Bihar and resided in Kandivali Raheja Tower, Mumbai.

From Iran’s side it was said that despite the warning from IRGC, this oil tanker was passing through the Northern Persian Gulf. That’s why it was attacked. Since the beginning of the war on February 28, Iran has targeted 18 oil tankers in this area. Just a day earlier, Iran had attacked a Thai ship.
