Assam Minister Nandita Garlosa joins Congress, will contest elections from this seat

Nandita Gorlosa Joins Congress: Nandita Garlosa, Sports and Youth Welfare Minister in Himanta Biswa Sarma government of Assam, has joined the Congress camp before the assembly elections. Garlosa has taken this step after not being given the ticket by BJP. According to the statement issued by the Congress, Nandita Garlosa will contest elections from Haflong assembly seat of Dima Hasao district on the party ticket. Congress had earlier given a chance to its state unit general secretary Nirmal Langthasa from this assembly seat, but now he has agreed to give the party ticket to Garlosa.

Minister Garlosa joins Congress

Congress said in a statement that we are happy to announce that Nandita Garlosa has joined the Congress. He has been the voice of Dima Hasao for the last 5 years. She has always stood firmly for her beliefs and principles. Congress alleges that Assam Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Garlosa had to pay the price in BJP because CM Sarma is only interested in selling tribal lands to big companies.

Garlosa is MLA from Haflong seat

Assam Congress says that Garlosa represents Haflong in the assembly, but this time BJP has made Rupali Langthasa its candidate from this assembly constituency. Know that Nandita Garlosa has joined Congress immediately after resigning from the post of minister and membership of BJP. In her resignation letter sent to Assam BJP President Dilip Saikia, Nandita Garlosa wrote that I am giving my formal resignation from the primary membership of Bharatiya Janata Party with immediate effect.

Nothing was resolved in the meeting with CM Sarma

It is noteworthy that Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had visited Garlosa’s house in Haflong last Sunday. However, CM Sarma and Garlosa did not issue any statement regarding the outcome of the meeting. Voting for the 126-member Assam Assembly will be held on April 9, 2026, while the results will be declared on May 4.
