Shaheed Diwas: Today is the day to remember three brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives for India’s freedom. Today is March 23 and this day is known as Martyrs’ Day in India. On this day in the year 1931, the British government hanged three great revolutionaries Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev in Lahore jail. These three young heroes happily sacrificed their lives for the freedom of the country at the age of just 23-24. Although very few people would know about this, Martyr’s Day is celebrated three times a year in India. Let us know which are those three days.

30 January

Martyr’s Day is celebrated on 30 January in the very first month of the year. This day is one of the saddest days in the history of India, because on this day in 1948, the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi was shot dead by Nathuram Godse. Mahatma Gandhi brought independence to the country on the strength of non-violence, truth and unity, and his sacrifice still inspires millions of Indians. Remembering the great works of Mahatma Gandhi, his death anniversary is celebrated as Martyr’s Day in India. On this day various programs are organized across the country and Mahatma Gandhi is remembered.

23 March

The second Martyr’s Day of the year is celebrated on 23 March. Today is 23rd March, so we will also know about today’s Martyr’s Day. Today is that dark day when three great revolutionaries happily sacrificed their lives for India’s freedom. On this day Rajguru, Sukhdev and Bhagat Singh were hanged. Today is known as Martyrs’ Day in honor of the revolutionaries who lost their lives for the country every year. Today, across India, profound tributes are being paid to Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev on their death anniversaries. These three great revolutionaries will always be a source of inspiration for the young generation.

21st October

The third and last Martyr’s Day of the year is celebrated on 21 October. It is celebrated in the memory of those policemen who have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty. This day is also known as Police Memorial Day or Police Martyrs’ Day. On this day in 1959, a deadly attack was carried out by the Chinese Army in Hot Springs, Ladakh, in which 10 brave police soldiers were martyred. This incident marked the beginning of the India-China border dispute, and since then every year on 21 October, police forces across the country remember this day in memory of the martyrs.
