Serving bad food in Vande Bharat was costly, Railways fined Rs 10 lakh on IRCTC, Rs 50 lakh on others

Indian Railways has taken major action keeping the safety of passengers in mind. A total fine of Rs 60 lakh has been imposed for serving spoiled food. Railways has imposed a fine of Rs 10 lakh on its own company Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC). Also, a fine of Rs 50 lakh has been imposed on the concerned service provider.

Order to terminate service provider’s contract

According to the information, the complaint made by the passenger on the quality of food regarding the irregularity found in train number 21896 (Patna – Tatanagar Vande Bharat X) on 15 March 2026 has been taken seriously. Taking action, a penalty of Rs 10 lakh has been imposed on IRCTC. A fine of Rs 50 lakh has been imposed on the concerned service provider and orders for termination of contract have been given. In this way a total fine of Rs 60 lakh has been imposed.

Let us tell you that Indian Railways, through IRCTC, serves food to more than 15 lakh passengers every day in its huge network. IRCTC arranges food (veg/non-veg) in the train. It also provides food facilities in food plazas and railway retiring rooms at stations.
